Craigdarroch Castle is a definitively Victorian experience. It is a shining example of a “bonanza castle” — massive houses built for entrepreneurs who became wealthy during the industrial age. In this case, the industrialist was Robert Dunsmuir, a Scottish immigrant who made his fortune from Vancouver Island coal. This legendary Victorian mansion, built between 1887 and 1890 on a hill overlooking the City of Victoria, announced to the world that Robert Dunsmuir was the richest and most important man in Western Canada. He died in 1889, leaving his entire estate to his wife Joan, who lived in the Castle until her death in 1908. The immense fortune of the Dunsmuir family is reflected in the four floors of exquisite stained glass windows, intricate woodwork and fabulous Victorian-era furnishings.

Everyone who goes to Victoria needs to walk out to the Breakwater Lighthouse! We ventured out on a very windy day and experienced the high surf against the barrier wall. You get a fantastic view of the shore from the lighthouse and it's great exercise to get out there because of how long the walkway is from the shore.

Hermann’s Jazz Club began nearly 40 years ago, on February 25, 1981, at the Bastion Inn on Government St, when German entrepreneur Hermann Nieweler [Knee-well-er] was persuaded by his friend Barry Stubbs to book Friday Harbor’s Island City Jazz Band for a weekend performance at his hotel lounge. Hermann’s love for a good party, lively music and happy patrons led to his establishment of the Dixieland Inn at the hotel. Hermann moved the club to the current View Street location in 1986 when it was renamed “Hermann’s Jazz Club”. In 2000, our 753 View St location suffered heavy damage from a fire. A testament to his commitment, Hermann rebuilt at great personal expense. Our friend Hermann passed on June 10th, 2015. From 2015 to 2019 his family faced many issues but have remained dedicated to their father's legacy. After running a successful fundraising campaign the non-profit Jazz On View Society has taken over as of July 15th 2019. Saveur offers fine dining food in a casual urban setting. Award-winning chef, Robert Cassels, delivers French-inspired contemporary cuisine through playful and elegant tasting menus, that change regularly based on seasonal offerings from farmers, foragers, and fisheries of Vancouver Island. The restaurant has recently undergone a renovation featuring a live wall with bay tree and rosemary, charred cedar wall opposite the open kitchen (handmade by Chef Cassels using a Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique) and custom-made black walnut tables with stainless accent inlay. Saveur also offers a la carte dining, bar snacks, an innovative cocktail program, and brunch Wednesday through Saturday 10-2.

Absolutely gorgeous lake. On a clear, sunny day in spring or summer it's incredibly beautiful, and hard to believe it's just another lake on Vancouver Island! This is one of those lakes you really have to see on the island. I highly recommend checking it out. There's a trail that goes all the way around the lake, so you can walk around or run around (if you run it takes about 20 minutes or so to get around it). It's also a fantastic spot for swimming! This lake really is a spectacle!

The garden was designed to frame the architectural details of the Italianate house. A number of ornamental plants, roses, trees, the Wellingtonia redwood tree, also known as a Sequoiadendron giganteum, which was ordered from San Francisco in 1876. The property also contained vegetable and cut flower gardens, a small fruit orchard, and a greenhouse. The House has a fine collection of Victorian garden tools and catalogues, as well as heirloom plantings.

A fantastic pit stop on your way to Juan de Fuca. The staff there are super friendly and can share insights on attractions and seasonality expectation. There are also lots of resources free to take that can help you gain some knowledge about particular attraction points. The historical equipment and items were very neat, love the knowledge shared along with some story telling audio display. Excellent trail that goes around the perimeter of this beautiful lake. The trail for the most part is easy with some roots and rocks on the well traveled path. The southern portion of the lake has a section with a moderate upwards climb that isn't very high but it is more challenging for those that may have some mobility issues. Other than that most of the trail is easy. Small little beach at the eastern portion of the park. Great place to launch a kayak or canoe.

マグワイア山のハイキングはイーストスークパークの北部に位置する。この地域の美しい景色と海岸の景色を一望できるトレイルループ。さまざまな難易度のトレイルがある。沿岸トレイル、山岳トレイル、坑道トレイル、海岸トレイルに沿って避難する小さなキャビン。初めて行く場合は、トレイルで迷子になりやすいため、イーストスークパークのPDFマップを印刷して、日没前に駐車場に戻ることを計画しよう！

A huge park with loads of different trails to hike of varying difficulty - Coastal, inland, viewpoints, mine shafts, and a small cabin to take shelter in along the coastal trail on a wet/windy day. If you've never been before, stick to the main trails as its pretty easy to get lost on all the side trails, and plan to return to the parking lot well before sunset.
