Hermann’s Jazz Club began nearly 40 years ago, on February 25, 1981, at the Bastion Inn on Government St, when German entrepreneur Hermann Nieweler [Knee-well-er] was persuaded by his friend Barry Stubbs to book Friday Harbor’s Island City Jazz Band for a weekend performance at his hotel lounge. Hermann’s love for a good party, lively music and happy patrons led to his establishment of the Dixieland Inn at the hotel. Hermann moved the club to the current View Street location in 1986 when it was renamed “Hermann’s Jazz Club”. In 2000, our 753 View St location suffered heavy damage from a fire. A testament to his commitment, Hermann rebuilt at great personal expense. Our friend Hermann passed on June 10th, 2015. From 2015 to 2019 his family faced many issues but have remained dedicated to their father's legacy. After running a successful fundraising campaign the non-profit Jazz On View Society has taken over as of July 15th 2019. We will continue to operate Hermann's as a community spirited venue with the suppo

The water was calm and the boat very comfortable. It's pretty chilly on the water so consider wearing pants and bringing a light jacket. In addition to the sea life, the views of Mt. Baker, the Olympic Mountains, a number of islands and the coast were spectacular!

Craigdarroch Castle is a definitively Victorian experience. It is a shining example of a “bonanza castle” — massive houses built for entrepreneurs who became wealthy during the industrial age. In this case, the industrialist was Robert Dunsmuir, a Scottish immigrant who made his fortune from Vancouver Island coal. This legendary Victorian mansion, built between 1887 and 1890 on a hill overlooking the City of Victoria, announced to the world that Robert Dunsmuir was the richest and most important man in Western Canada. He died in 1889, leaving his entire estate to his wife Joan, who lived in the Castle until her death in 1908. He makes our gelato in the "Vero Gelato Artiginale" proper artisan Gelato way and incorporates vegan and alternative sugars into traditional methods. Mosi Gelato also sells baked goods, sandwiches, salads and coffee all made from scratch at their West Saanich country store.

There's a trail that goes all the way around the lake, so you can walk around or run around (if you run it takes about 20 minutes or so to get around it). It's also a fantastic spot for swimming! This lake really is a spectacle!

A fantastic pit stop on your way to Juan de Fuca. The staff there are super friendly and can share insights on attractions and seasonality expectation. There are also lots of resources free to take that can help you gain some knowledge about particular attraction points. The historical equipment and items were very neat, love the knowledge shared along with some story telling audio display. This place was fantastic. The staff and volunteers were all friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. The aquariums and displays were beautiful, educational and as a family, we all loved the interactive elements - story time circle, puzzles, search and find, touch pool and more. The Maritime Museum of BC opened in 1955 as a naval museum located on Signal Hill just outside the gates of the HMC Dockyard in Esquimalt. By 1965, the Museum had outgrown the original location and found a new home in the former Supreme Court building in Bastion Square − the oldest surviving courthouse in the province. In 2014, the Museum got news from the Government of British Columbia that the provincially-owned historic courthouse was in need of major repairs that require the building to be empty. The Museum has since relocated to a new public storefront location at 634 Humboldt St., where we have our exhibits, public research space, and a gift shop. The majority of our collections are now stored off-site but are still accessible through our research request program.

You should think of Hatley Castle, and Hatley Park National Historic Site, more as an elaborate mansion and less of a medieval castle. It is still very grand and very impressive! The entire Castle was built within 2 years and had an expensive electrical system as well! The castle also had 13 fireplaces! It has a large garden with 3 ponds to it's West side and a massive lawn to it's South. The castle was occupied and acted as an academy for the armed forces but currently serves as an administrative building for the neighboring college. These are just some of the facts and figured that you will learn if you get to chance and have the time to take part in their paid tour! It's definitely worthwhile. This site also has a huge grass lawn along with a multiple gardens that, altogether, contain 3 ponds. Ample paid parking just south of the castle. This is also a great place for weddings and formal ceremonies.

Everyone who goes to Victoria needs to walk out to the Breakwater Lighthouse! We ventured out on a very windy day and experienced the high surf against the barrier wall. You get a fantastic view of the shore from the lighthouse and it's great exercise to get out there because of how long the walkway is from the shore.

Keep in mind that most hikes start at the bottom which means the hard part is first, then it's all downhill. This hike is the opposite. All downhill to start, then a big, uphill climb back to the parking lot. That said, this is one of our favorite little hikes in the area. If I had a boat this is definitely a place I'd anchor for a bit of peace and tranquility. Beautiful little spot.

The Prince and Princess settled in Victoria, began to develop their one-acre property and build their home. They continued to improve the garden throughout their forty years together. In 2000, The Land Conservancy purchased the property to preserve the Garden, the legacy of the Abkhazis. Forty-five minute guided tours of the Garden can be arranged by contacting The Teahouse. Your guide will give an overview of the history of the Garden. In particular, your guide will explain how the events of the Princess' life affected her philosophy behind her design of the Garden and her respect for the unique character of the natural landscape. Discover the wide variety of rare plants that are cultivated by the horticultural experts who strive to preserve the Princess' legacy.

The Village offers all-day breakfast and lunch and is open from 8 am to 3 pm daily. We have five locations with a downtown Victoria location near Chinatown, 5 minute walk from the Inner Harbour. The Village uses fresh and locally sourced ingredients, and have unique breakfast and lunch items. Dine in or take out. Featured on the Food Network, The Village restaurant was acclaimed as one of the best locations to eat out in Victoria BC, on the show You Gotta Eat Here.
